CBG Explained
What is CBG? The mother cannabinoid the skincare industry still doesn't understand
While everyone talks about CBD, CBG – cannabigerol – has been in the shadows. But that's changing. CBG is called the mother cannabinoid because all other cannabinoids start as CBGA, its acid form. It's not a byproduct – it's the origin.

Why CBG has been unknown for so long
CBG typically makes up only one to two percent of the mature hemp plant's content. That's because CBGA, CBG's acid form, converts into THCA, CBDA, and CBCA as the plant matures. By harvest time, most CBG has already become other cannabinoids. This has made CBG expensive and difficult to produce in larger quantities.
In recent years, growers have begun developing CBG-rich hemp varieties and optimizing harvest timing to maximize CBG content. This has opened the door for research and product development that was previously economically impossible.
Research on CBG in skincare is still relatively young compared to CBD, but the results are promising. CBG has been shown to interact with the endocannabinoid system differently than CBD – it binds directly to both CB1 and CB2 receptors instead of working indirectly. This gives CBG a unique profile as a complement to or substitute for CBD in skincare.
The essentials about CBG
Direct receptor binding
Unlike CBD, which affects the ECS indirectly, CBG binds directly to CB1 and CB2 receptors. This enables more direct communication with the skin's regulatory system, particularly for oil production and inflammatory response.
Oil balance without dryness
Studies have shown CBG affects sebocytes – oil-producing cells – and helps them normalize production. This makes it an interesting ingredient for everything from acne to dry skin, depending on what the skin needs.
Antibacterial properties
Research has shown CBG possesses antibacterial properties, including against antibiotic-resistant bacteria. In skincare, this can support skin's defense against bacteria contributing to acne and skin infections.
Best together with CBD
CBG and CBD have different mechanisms of action and enhance each other. Combining them gives a broader effect on the endocannabinoid system than either alone. Researchers call it the entourage effect.
Concentration determines effect
As with CBD, meaningful concentrations are needed for real effect. Products with less than one percent CBG likely don't deliver the effect research suggests. Always check the percentage.
CBG in 1753 SKINCARE products
TA-DA Serum is our CBG flagship with 3 percent concentration – one of the highest on the market. It gives skin direct access to this unique cannabinoid in a formulation designed for maximum absorption. The serum is water-soluble and absorbs quickly without leaving an oily feel.
In DUO TA-DA, we combine the CBG serum with a CBD-rich face oil to give skin the full spectrum. CBG works directly with receptors while CBD provides broader anti-inflammatory and antioxidant support. Together, they create the entourage effect that delivers the best results.
We also combine CBG with Fungtastic Mushroom Extract – medicinal mushrooms that support skin's immune defense and vitality. These are synergies conventional skincare hasn't even begun to explore.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between CBG and CBD?
CBG binds directly to the endocannabinoid system's receptors while CBD works more indirectly. CBG is called the mother cannabinoid because all other cannabinoids develop from it. They have different but complementary effects on skin.
Is CBG legal?
Yes, CBG from industrial hemp is legal throughout the EU. It's non-psychoactive and produces no high.
Can CBG get you high?
No. CBG is completely non-psychoactive. It doesn't affect consciousness and is entirely safe to use daily in skincare.
Why are CBG products more expensive than CBD?
CBG occurs in much lower concentrations in the hemp plant, making it more expensive to produce. It requires specially cultivated hemp varieties and optimized harvest timing. The price reflects actual production cost, not marketing.
